CADA urges dealers to support BC wildfires relief
September 5, 2023
It’s been a devastating season for wildfires in many parts of Canada.
In B.C., the BC Red Cross reports that thousands of people are under evacuation orders, or on high alert due to the risk of new fires. Heatwave warnings and the ongoing drought is making things even worse.
With homes being destroyed and lives being disrupted, the province has declared a state of emergency. The New Car Dealers Association of BC (NCDA) is urging its dealer members to contribute to a special donation portal set up with BC Red Cross to help provide financial assistance to those in need. The NCDA will match donations made by its dealer members, up to $20,000. Donations are tax deductible.
The funds go to support those impacted including assisting with shelter, basic needs, recovery assistance, and emotional support. “Your generosity makes a big difference to those impacted by these devastating wildfires,” said Blair Qualey, President and CEO of NCDA. “We encourage you to support and share with your networks. On behalf of NCDA, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude for your support.”
The Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) made a $10,000 donation. “Whenever there’s a need in a community, you can count on car dealers to step up,” said Tim Reuss, CADA President and CEO. “CADA is happy to contribute, and urges dealers to contribute to this fund if they are able to.”
Suppliers to the industry are also joining the cause. F&I services provider iA Dealer Services has also stepped up and made a generous donation of $50,000 to the NCDA donation fund.
"We recognize the impact that the wildfires have had in B.C. and have made a donation of $50,000 to show our support. We are proud to be part of this business and stand with our dealer partners to support the communities where we operate," said Gwen Gareau, Senior Vice President, iA Dealer Services.
