CADA on the Hill

With the Hill back in session, CADA decided to head to Ottawa to speak with government decision makers on issues that matter to its members. John White, CADA’s President and CEO, and Huw Williams, CADA’s Public Affairs Director, met with Members of Parliament, Senators and Policy Advisors throughout the day on September 21st to speak about the state of Canada’s retail automotive sector. The meetings went extremely well, and highlights included speaking with the Hon. Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and both the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

One of the other meetings involved a Senior Policy Advisor to the Hon. Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance. This discussion revolved around the proposed tax changes, and in order to continue bringing greater attention to how this could impact small businesses, including CADA’s members, we encourage you to send a letter to your MP electronically which can be accessed here.

CADA’s day on Parliament Hill also included a hosted lunch with all of the interns involved in this year’s Parliamentary Internship Programme, an initiative CADA has been proud to sponsor for many years. The lunch took place in the Parliamentary dining room and involved conversation lead by John White on CADA as an association and the government relations work it is involved in. CADA also worked to have the Hon. Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, appear to meet the interns which added an exciting element to the afternoon.
